The Opening of the 30-Million-Euro Investment at Acroni
“We have several hundred years of tradition; we utilise past experience and new skills; we have a strong organisational structure; we use the synergy between the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ) and Koks; we are flexible; we possess a highly developed sense of team spirit and – it would have been impossible to succeed without this – diligent and loyal associates", said proudly by the Chairman of the Management Board of SIJ, Tibor Šimonka, in his speech at the opening of the new 30-million-euro plant for the continuous casting of steel intermediate products.
At the opening ceremony that took place on Tuesday, 23 June 2009, the plant was symbolically christened and commissioned within Acroni’s manufacturing hall by Prime Minister Borut Pahor, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SIJ, Andrey Zubitskiy, the Chairman of the Management Board of SIJ, Tibor Šimonka, and, of course, the Managing Director of Acroni, Slavko Kanalec. “The project for the renovation of the plant for the continuous casting of slabs undoubtedly belongs among the great milestones that will mark the future of Acroni. Having one of the most advanced factories of this kind in the world, Acroni now has the opportunity to mark its presence on the world’s map of leading steel manufacturers with its quality and innovative products and technologies; not in terms of quantity, but in terms of product complexity. It is our mission to solve the most complex requests and needs of our customers", said Managing Director, Slavko Kanalec, before more than 250 business partners from Slovenia and abroad and the numerous Acroni workers gathered there.

The Prime Minister of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ) have symbolically christened the 30-million-euro plant for the continuous casting of steel, naming it Catherine.
